This site will look much better in a browser that supports web standards, but it is accessible to any browser or Internet device.

New Design! (2003-01-29 01:00:44) [link]
The new design isn't 100% done yet, but it's close enough that I decided to quit stalling and just post it so you can all quit staring at the hatelife design. (While I love the hatelife design, it's aimed at a specific feeling that doesn't quite fit here on KMorg.)

Special thanks go to SpaceMonkey, for finding the solution to my formatting problem.

Of course, I now have a brand new CSS problem. If you view this design in Mozilla, in a window that's narrower than the design, you'll notice that the left side of the design slides off-screen, and you're not given a scrollbar, so you can't reach the hidden parts... which are unfortunately the navigation links. This problem doesn't affect Internet Explorer, only Mozilla. Any help anyone can offer would be much appreciated.

Stuff in the works:
- finally finishing the preferences page
- copying over the latest updates to the software
- completing the updates to the user skins (classic and custom are already done!)
- writing a tutorial for people on how to skin their account effectively.
- explaining all the new features.
Internet Explorer is a horrible browser (2003-01-22 17:15:13) [link]
Hey kids... I'm sure even the most well-tempered of you are starting to wonder just what is taking so long to finish the upgrade. Well, the answer is that the upgrade itself is 90% complete. Steve is polishing up the last few bits of code needed, and then I'm going to impliment them. Journals and Forums should already be working. If you're having any trouble with any basic functionality (posting or viewing your journal or forum), please post about it in the Support Forum.

The other main thing that needs to be done is updating the main page so it doesn't look like hatelife and tweak the CSS on the user skins to work with the new styles. However, I'm encountering a suprising slew of problems with the new design, all caused by Internet Explorer, which is a terrible browser if you want to do anything with CSS. If any of you know your CSS pretty well and think you might be able to help, you can see my posts to two support forums here:

Also, I don't know if these are the best forums out there, so if anyone knows of any better CSS support forums, please feel free to let me know!

But don't worry, the work is still progressing, and we'll have it all done soon! You're going to love the new features!
Progress Report (2003-01-09 00:10:06) [link]
Hey everybody. The upgrade is still in progress, but is nearing completion. As everyone's noticed, posting works fine, but needs to be done through www.KMorg. Just so you all know what kind of things are still remaining, here's a small list:

# Apply new design to main site.
# Update all journal skins to use new CSS.
# Fix various broken links.
# Fix HTML parsing for user posts.
# Fix the "return-to" links on posting pages when posting to forums.
# Add skin options to preferences page.
# Add delete function to edit page.
# Fix login cookie to apply to subdomains so edit links will display.
# Fix journal/forum lists so updates are based on logical criteria.
# Post tutorial for users to modify their custom skins to fix broken posting links and change CSS to new standards.
# Add ability to choose subdomain on the preferences page.
# And probably some other stuff I'm not remembering right now.

I'll edit this post to cross things off as we finish them. Thanks again for your patience, everybody! Rest assured, these changes are providing for a better future for KMorg!
Pardon Our Mess (2003-01-02 21:00:24) [link]
We're still working hard on the upgrade. It's taking slightly longer than I planned, because I'm sick as a dog. So please bear with us as we continue the upgrade. Most functionality should be back already, even if things look ugly. I invite you to Log In and post to your journal. If you encounter any difficulties, try posting to the support forum.

I'm sure you're all getting tired of endless promises about forthcoming upgrades to KMorg (I know I am), but I just wanted to reassure you all that I haven't forgotten you! Steve and I have spent the last several weeks working on a major upgrade to the software that runs this site, and we've already installed it over on [http://www.hatelife.org/]. There's some more features to be added before we can upgrade KMorg, but once we're done, this site will be running on a much more flexible software platform that will allow for growth in the future, as well as some neat improvements to the way subdomains are handled. Anyways, I'm not giving any specific dates this time, since we've missed every single previous deadline, but let's just say very soon. Keep your eye on the site!
